[SMM survey] Weekly Review of Electrolyzer Industry (2025-08-01 to 08-07)

In terms of capacity, according to incomplete statistics, the domestic alkaline electrolyzer market maintained a capacity of 43.77GW.

This week's delivery status:

HydoTech's flagship product, the HydoLyser® advanced electrolyzer system, was officially shipped to Italy this week.

Previous delivery status:

CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co., Ltd. officially shipped 13 sets of independently developed 1000Nm³/h electrolyzers, which will be delivered to the Guohua Cangzhou "Green Port Hydrogen City" project.

The 50m³ water electrolysis products supplied by Guofu Hydrogen Energy for the TNB-PCSS green hydrogen demonstration project of State Grid Corporation of Malaysia have been successfully shipped to Shanghai Port.

Wenshi Hydrogen Energy's AEM hydrogen production system was smoothly shipped to Austria; the MW-level hydrogen production system developed and produced by Hydrogen Energy has been shipped and will be used in hydrogen production-related projects of large domestic energy enterprises.

Shanghai Hydrogen Era Technology Co., Ltd. delivered four 1050Nm³/h electrolyzers to the China Energy Construction Songyuan Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park project.

China Power (Yangzhou) Hydrogen Production Equipment Co., Ltd. successfully delivered a complete set of 1000Nm³/h alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment, including a 1000Nm³/h electrolyzer, separation skid, purification skid, and water-alkali tank and other supporting equipment. The delivery direction has not yet been obtained.

As of August 7, 2025, domestic enterprises (including overseas deliveries) delivered a total of 365.85MW of alkaline electrolyzers in Q2 (all data are from public sources and SMM surveys).

Updates on electrolyzer projects:

1. Peric Hydrogen Energy and Ludao Hydrogen Energy were pre-selected for the 25MW hybrid module procurement project of the National Energy Group Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd.'s National Key 1.1 Project Demonstration Engineering.

2. The Xinjiang Junrui Fukang District New Energy Large-scale Green Hydrogen Production Project was canceled due to insufficient units passing the qualification review. The project included 53 sets of 2000Nm³/h electrolyzers.

3. Equipment procurement for the Yining City Green Electricity Large-scale Hydrogen Production Project, which includes a hydrogen production station: a. Water electrolysis hydrogen production devices include two sets of 1000Nm³/h water electrolysis devices, supporting separation devices, hydrogen purification devices, alkali distribution systems, chiller units, cooling water circulation devices, pure water makeup systems, and storage tanks, with oxygen purification reserved; b. Supporting 20MPa hydrogen compressors and 20MPa one-machine dual-pipe filling cabinets.

4. The Baotou Hydrogen Energy Jingdian Green Energy Green Electricity Hydrogen Production Project was approved.

5. The Baotou Damao Mengfa Guofu Green Electricity Hydrogen Production Project was approved.

6. The procurement tender for the complete set of hydrogen production equipment at the hydrogen production end of the Gemeng Yihe New Energy Co., Ltd.'s Chayouqianqi Wind and Solar Hydrogen Production Integration Project (Phase I), which includes 36 sets of 250Nm³/h PEM equipment. 7.8. The Jidian Stock D'an Wind and Solar Green Hydrogen Synthesis Ammonia Integration Demonstration Project has undergone rigorous debugging and comprehensive inspection and is fully prepared for production.

7. The Manas Yudu Green Hydrogen Factory, constructed and operated by Manas Longshengda Yudu Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Jiangsu Guofu Hydrogen Energy Technology Equipment Co., Ltd., signed a green hydrogen supply framework agreement with Xinjiang Xinlianxin Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd.

8. Shell's investment in the construction of Europe's largest green hydrogen project, Holland Hydrogen 1, at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The project adopts Thyssenkrupp's square atmospheric pressure electrolyzer technology and is expected to be put into production within 2025; the project is equipped with 200 megawatts
The atmospheric alkaline electrolyzer (provided by Thyssenkrupp) has a designed daily capacity of 60,000 kg of green hydrogen.

Policy Review

  1. The first hydrogen energy standard in the energy industry, NB/T 11810-2025 "Regulations for the Preparation of Planning Reports for Renewable Energy Power-to-Hydrogen Projects" (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations"), compiled by the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute, was officially released and will be implemented from December 30, 2025.
  2. ​​The European Commission approved a €4 billion special fund for electrolyzers, providing a 30% subsidy on equipment costs for projects with a capacity of ≥500 MW/year, and setting an efficiency target of ≥60% (LHV basis) for electrolyzers in green hydrogen projects by 2030.
  3. ​​The European Commission released the "Clean Industrial Agreement State Aid Framework," which explicitly requires member states to prioritize support for "Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin" (RFNBOs) and ensures that public resources are directed towards low-carbon technologies through details such as funding allocation ratios and project timelines.

​​Corporate Developments

  1. Suzhou SinceTrue Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (SINCETRUE) officially signed a hydrogen energy cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia's MOAJ Company. The two parties will engage in in-depth cooperation in areas such as green hydrogen production, storage and transportation equipment, and localized manufacturing.
  2. The Agricultural Bank of China's Changji Branch, together with its Fukang Sub-branch, held discussions with Junrui Group, exploring ways to deepen financial service cooperation and plan for future development.
  3. Wolong Inalde unveiled its new large-scale AEM hydrogen production system at the Hydrogen Energy Exhibition in Guangzhou, Guangdong. The system has an output power of up to 2.5 MW and can produce over 1 ton of green hydrogen with a purity of 99.999% per day.
  4. Statkraft, Europe's largest renewable energy producer, will advance its green hydrogen plan on the Shetland Islands.
  5. Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a Spanish renewable energy development company, announced that it has partnered with Envision Energy as its strategic partner in Brazil, with both parties reaching an agreement on cooperation.
  6. Sungrow Hydrogen New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. was established, with a business scope including new materials technology R&D, electronic special materials R&D, non-ferrous metal alloy manufacturing, electroplating processing, etc. The company is 100% owned by Sungrow Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd.
  7. Shenzhen Wenshi Hydrogen Energy Co., Ltd. will build China's first megawatt-scale AEM electrolyzer production line in the Shushan Economic and Technological Development Zone, with a planned investment of 500 million yuan.

​​Patent Applications

  1. ​​The Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (China) disclosed patent CN2025110028, developing a ceramic-based anion exchange membrane with a laboratory-tested lifespan of 80,000 hours.
  2. ​​Johnson Matthey (UK) submitted patent WO2025109876, disclosing a Fe-Ni-Mo ternary non-precious metal catalyst formulation with activity close to that of platinum-based materials.

​​Technological Footprint​​

  1. ​​GKN Powder Metallurgy announced that it has developed a new generation of high-performance, high-porosity, and high-purity porous transport layers (HP-PTLs) for proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis.
  2. The first 220 kW high-safety solid-state hydrogen storage fuel cell emergency power generation system was officially unveiled and put into demonstration application at the Weiwang Union Wi-Fi Smart Terminal Industrial Park. This achievement marks a core breakthrough in China's hydrogen energy emergency power supply sector.
    A major breakthrough in the localization of core equipment.
  3. The first off-grid medium-voltage DC 20kV direct-connected hydrogen production power supply (also known as "Hydrogen Element 1") independently developed and manufactured by Tongda Electromagnetic Energy Co., Ltd. in China has been successfully applied.
  4. ​​Nel Hydrogen​​ (Norway) has launched a new generation of PEM electrolyzers, HySyner500, with an increased current density of 5A/cm² and a 22% reduction in material costs per unit of capacity.
